The Green Bay Packers offense had a renewed inspiring performance against the Carolina Panthers after the team scored 33 points this past Sunday. What has at times been a struggling, or inconsistent performance throughout the season on offense appears to not be dampening any moods around the Green Bay facility.
Green Bay Packers Sense Of Improvement
According to the Green Bay Packers beat writer for the Athletic, Matt Schneidman, Jordan Love offered the following about the team’s progress:
I think the exciting part about it is some of those mistakes we were making early on in the season, now we’ve corrected those things and we’re turning them into big-time plays.
What is he referring to exactly?
Throughout the year, this Green Bay Packers has had a very hard time moving the ball, and getting the ball to open receivers. One of the aspects that Jordan Love has talked about needing to improve his footwork. At times his footwork and mechanics have cause inaccurate passes, and passes to sail over open receivers.
Knowing that small mistakes in the NFL can prove to be consequential, missing open receivers, or what should be considered “easy to make plays” are needed from the fourth year quarterback.
Green Bay Quarterbacks Coach On Jordan Love
Green Bay Packers quarterback coach Tom Clements shared the following earlier on the improvement of Jordan Love’s footwork throughout his time with the organization.
Jordan’s footwork is really what we’ve worked on, and I think he’s bought into what we’re trying to accomplish, and he’s improved in that aspect. So we’re working on that, and he’s improved in that area a lot.
Tom Clements has referred to the fact that his time with Jordan Love has been limited in the past. But with more practice time, and greater attention to details in his fundamentals, the Green Bay Packers believe that he is the franchise quarterback for the future.
Green Bay Packers First Year Starter
Having sat behind Aaron Rodgers for three years, it is understandable that some time would be needed to adjust into a starting role. After all, the only way to get better at playing quarterback is by playing in an actual regular season game. Practice is good, preseason helps, but there is nothing that can fully simulate facing four defensive linemen that are trying to give their full effort to bring you to the ground.
Jordan Love started off slow in the beginning of the year, speaking to what he self-assessed in his statement. In three of his first six games, he threw for less than 200 yards passing. Throughout the season, he had six games in which he only threw for one touchdown or less, including a game against the Las Vegas Raiders that saw a zero touchdown, 3 interception performance.
In his last seven games, it does appear that Jordan Love has turned a corner. Five of his last seven games he threw for for at least 250 yards, and only did not throw for two plus touchdowns in one.
It’s fairly clear, when Jordan Love is playing with confidence, has a clean pocket, and is solid in his footwork, then he should be in consideration for one of the better starting quarterbacks in the league.
