The Green Bay Packers may be the underdogs against the Dallas Cowboys in their Wild Card matchup, but that’s not discouraging quarterback Jordan Love and head coach Matt LaFleur at all. If anything, it’s only motivating them even more to perform at their best.
LaFleur’s men are in a really disadvantageous position in their showdown with the Cowboys. For one, they are the youngest team in the postseason, with their QB in his first year as a full-time starter. They don’t have plenty of playoff experience in the group, which isn’t exactly ideal against a battle-tested squad that has been in the postseason for three straight years now.
There is also the fact that the Packers are the road team in the Wild Card round. Sure, they are 4-5 on away games throughout the 2023m regular season, which isn’t bad at all considering how tough it is to win on the road. Unfortunately for them, they are facing the Cowboys who are the best team at home this campaign.
The Cowboys went 8-0 on their turf, beating any opponent that came their way regardless of their win-loss record. Overall, Dallas has not lost on AT&T Stadium for 16 straight games now dating back to 2022–the longest active streak in the NFL.
Despite the challenge that awaits them, however, Jordan Love is not losing his confidence. The young quarterback believes that their experience throughout the year will help them as they try to pull off the upset.
“It could come up huge,” Love said about the team’s overall road experience in 2023, per Packers.com. “I think those are all areas that we’ve had to go through and lose a couple games and not finish, and (then) find a way to win those games to understand just how important all those plays are and … that margin for error, how small that is.”
Meanwhile, head coach Matt LaFleur expressed his belief on the team and the mentality they have. Considering how hungry the Green Bay Packers are, the veteran tactician knows very well they are capable of slaying even the giants.
“When you have something to prove, like you don’t let that get you down. That’s what I love about this group is there’s so many guys in that locker room that despite what was going on around them, they were hungry to prove not only to themselves but everybody that they do belong,” LaFleur added.
Dallas Cowboys Favored, But Green Bay Packers Have a Chance
The Dallas Cowboys are seven-point favorites against the Green Bay Packers, highlighting how massive of underdogs the visitors are.
It certainly doesn’t help that the Packers are dealing with multiple injuries as well, particularly on AJ Dillon, Christian Watson and Jaire Alexander. For the Cowboys, only Cooper Rush is on the injury report.
If there is one thing going well for the Packers, though, it’s the fact that they are on a three-game winning streak. If Green Bay can carry that momentum heading to Sunday, they could very well give them a chance at victory.
