It is no shock that Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love did not receive the MVP award. However, it is a shock that he didn’t even receive one 2nd or 3rd place vote after finishing the year as one of the NFL’s top premiere passers.
Jordan Love Finished Second in the League in Passing TDs
Jordan Love finished the season with 32 passing touchdowns which is only four behind the passing touchdown leader Dak Prescott. Prescott however did receive votes for MVP. The Dallas Cowboys offense had two pro bowl pass catchers this season with Ceedee Lamb and Jake Ferguson. Jordan Love led the youngest offense in the league with no real number one receiving target. Love helped the Packers achieve a record this year no one expected them to have. To not receive one vote seems like a huge mistake.
Loves Value to the Packers is Unmatched in the NFL
Now it’s obvious that the quarterback is the most important position, but this season showed that back up quarterbacks can come in and produce for their teams. Some of the offenses that are built around the stars of the NFL are super talented. Lamar Jackson had a league leading rush attack to help him. Brock Purdy has two top tier receivers, a great tight end, the best running back, and a stellar offensive line to protect him. If you removed them from those teams, the backup quarterbacks may be able to help the team to continue winning football games.
Obviously not to the extent the starters took them too but still help the team win games. One could argue Patrick Mahomes, Jordan Love, and Josh Allen are the valuable players to their teams in the NFL this year. What would be the record of the Packers if Jordan Love got hurt this season? They would have probably finished with a top 10 NFL Draft pick.
Love Should Have at Least Received Some MVP Votes
When looking at the list as of MVP 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place votes that players received; it’s hard to wrap your head around the fact that Love didn’t even get one. When you look at the bottom of the list you see CJ Stroud, Matthew Stafford, and Myles Garrett got votes for MVP. If you look at the stats, Jordan Love played better than all three of these players. Myles Garrett is hard to compare with but the other two vote getters are puzzling. Stroud and Stafford were great this year, but were they better than Jordan Love? It doesn’t seem like it. Since it voted on by the media, maybe Jordan Loves story didn’t catch the eyes of the voters.
There is always next year for Jordan Love to win MVP. With a possible revamped offense and another year of experience under his belt, he could take the next step into greatness. Hopefully the rest of the league will notice.
