The Green Bay Packers will need to figure out what to do with wide receiver Christian Watson entering the 2024 season. A season ago, he missed a lot of time due to a hamstring injury. He caught 28 passes for 422 yards receiving and five touchdowns, along with averaging 15.1 yards per catch.
He also was targeted 53 times last season by quarterback Jordan Love. Watson was very good during his rookie season and a lot thought he was going to take off last season but never did. To go along with his struggles, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks all emerged onto the scene.
Watson has two years remaining on his rookie deal and there is belief that he can turn it around next season, as long as he can stay healthy. Lombardiave.com writer Joe Tuman thinks that the Packers should find a way and trade him elsewhere this offseason. Tuman wrote about him by saying:
“While some may argue shipping him out now would be selling low on someone who’s flashed talent, you could also argue it’d be selling high due to his durability concerns. If Watson continues to be limited by injuries, it’s only a matter of time before his value sinks further. With the Packers having an array of young pass catchers already in-house, it would be worth trying to trade Watson and bring in draft capital to help rebuild the team’s defensive unit.”
The Green Bay Packers For Now Still Think Christian Watson Has Potential
There is a reason why head coach Matt LaFleur always played Watson on the field when he was always back in the lineup. He was always a home threat despite his struggles. Christian Watson’s flashes of last during Thanksgiving and the Kansas City Chiefs matchup appeared to be his get-right and-get-going games until he injured himself once again.
Green Bay is going to make sure that they get this right with Watson next season. He was at one point in the wild-card round against the Dallas Cowboys triple-teamed. This is what opened up the offense for Romeo Doubs and others. If Christian Watson is used as a decoy to get other teammates open, then it will be worth it whether fans like it or not.
Watson isn’t going anywhere for at least this upcoming season. If the same issues still arise, then that is another conversation to be had for another time.
