Okay, before the story, how about a joke?
On a first day of school in Chicago a teacher explained to her class that she’s a Chicago Bears fan. She asks her students to raise their hands if they’re also Bears fans. Everyone in the class raises their hand except one girl. The teacher looks at the girl with surprise, “Mary, why didn’t you raise your hand?”
“Because I’m not a Bears fan,” she replied. The teacher, still shocked, asked, “Well, if you aren’t a Bears fan, then who are you a fan of?”
“I’m a Packers fan,” the girl replied. The teacher couldn’t believe her ears. “Mary please tell us why you’re a Packers fan?”
“Because my mom is a Packers fan, and my dad is Packers fan, so I’m a Packers fan too!”
“Well,” said the teacher in an annoyed tone, “that’s no reason for you to be a Packers fan. You don’t have to be just like your parents all of the time. What if your mom was an idiot and your dad was a moron, what would you be then?”
“I’d be a Bears fan,” she said.
[Insert Rimshot]
Well, it’s often said that many a great truth is told in jest.
According to a recent study quoted by Richard Ryman of the Green Bay Press-Gazette and Yahoo Sports, Green Bay Packers fans rank well above Chicago Bears fans in the area of intelligence.
The study in question used the social media analysis tool Hypeauditor and was based on the findings of “How Much Does Education Improve Intelligence? A Meta-Analysis,” by Stuart Ritchie and Elliott Tucker-Drob. It ranked the education level of the social media followers for every team in the NFL to determine the intelligence level of each fan base.
Packers fans ranked fifth on the list, just above the Dallas Cowboys fans. Bears fans, meanwhile, didn’t do so well. They ranked 29th in the NFL– just one spot ahead of the new Aaron Rodgers home team New York Jets fans. Coming in at number one, by the way, were Buffalo Bills fans. In dead last place, ranked the dumbest of the dumb, were New York Giants fans.
So, what can you take away from this very informal study?
Not much, to be honest, unless your buddy is a Bears fan and you want to get under his skin a bit.
This could be used, however, as somewhat of an “in your face” to Chicago Bears defensive tackle Justin Jones who, just this week, had some pretty derogatory things to say about Packers fans and their attitude as well as their football IQ.
“Their fans are really (sh**ty),” Jones blasted. “…They’re just frickin’ obnoxious about things that don’t matter. Half of them don’t even know football. It’s so weird to me. I want to go out there and beat the hell out of them on their field.”
Well, science says differently, Mr. Jones. Kinda, sorta.
