According to multiple reports, four players with the Detroit Lions and one with the Washington Commanders were suspended by the NFL in connection to betting. Lions 2022 first-round pick Jameson Williams was suspended along with teammate Stanley Berryhill for six games for bets made at a Lions facility. Lions safety C.J. Moore and wide receiver Quintez Cephus were suspended indefinitely for placing bets on NFL games. Green Bay Packers fans reacted to the news shortly after reports came out.
The Detroit Lions will have a major obstacle to overcome
Per a statement from Williams’ representatives, the Lions’ second-year player was suspended for betting at the Lions facility rather than for betting on football games.
Statement from Jameson Williams representation:
“Alliance Sports confirms that its client, Jameson Williams, has been suspended by the NFL for six games for violating the NFL’s gambling policy. Jameson takes full responsibility for his actions and is very apologetic to the…— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) April 21, 2023
The Lions released Moore and Cephus shortly after the news came out. It’s a significant shake-up for the Lions ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft next Thursday. Williams was the only projected starter for the 2023 season of the four Lions suspended. However, the team has now lost several crucial depth pieces at the wide receiver and secondary positions. It’s a big shake-up for a team that is the favorite to win the NFC North in the early offseason.

Rumor is that Aidan Hutchinson gambled too.
The Lions should trade him to the Packers just in case.
