The Green Bay Packers 2023 odds don’t look good right now
The Green Bay Packers have enjoyed tremendous success in the previous two decades of football. The Packers have won 12 of the last 20 NFC North divisional titles. Eight of those titles have come with Aaron Rodgers as the Packers’ starting quarterback. Brett Favre was there for the other four. Oddsmakers appear to be down on the 2023 Packers as the NFL world waits for Green Bay’s front office to work out the necessary paperwork with the New York Jets to send Rodgers to the AFC next season.
According to Oddschecker, the Packers have the worst odds of all four divisional teams to win the NFC North in 2023. Bet MGM has the Packers at +450 odds to win the division. Caesars gives them better odds at +425. The Detroit Lions, who have had a solid free agency and offseason, are favorites to win the NFC North. Bet MGM has the Lions at +135 odds, and Caesars gives them +155 odds to win the division next season.
The Packers need to rebuild this season
The Packers are expected to go through some growing pains in the fall. Jordan Love will play his first entire year as a starter. He will do that with a team dealing with dead cap issues as they move on from veterans who were critical to the Rodgers era. As the Packers’ quiet free agency has shown, they will work with players they can find at a bargain as they build for their next run at the playoffs in the draft.
Love will have a skeleton crew to work with at his pass-catching positions. The Packers current starting wide receivers on the roster will be in the second NFL season in 2023. Tight end Robert Tonyan is with the Chicago Bears.
Packers fans should be patient with the process next season, especially with the progress of Love. Remember that Rodgers took over for Favre in the 2008 season, the season after the Packers won the NFC North. Rodgers’ first NFC North title wouldn’t come until the 2011 season.
