The Green Bay Packers have been listed in and around trade talks for All-Pro receiver Davante Adams. Adams returning to Green Bay could greatly improve their playoff chances, giving Love a superstar receiver to make plays for him. Unfortunately, Adams went down with a shoulder injury against the Los Angeles Chargers. While he did return to action and posted 75 yards, his post-game comments are definitely a cause for concern, saying that his shoulder “doesn’t feel good”. Even though Adams isn’t even close to being a Packer just yet, this could have a negative impact on Green Bay.
Davante Adams’ Injury Could Hurt the Green Bay Packers if He Becomes Available
As previously mentioned, the Packers have been listed as a top trade destination for Adams. Not only could he boost the offense as a whole, but his impact on Jordan Love would be monumental. Love is a young quarterback and is still getting a feel for NFL action. He’s been really solid thus far, but he will make an occasional awful throw. That’s where a guy like Adams comes into play. Adams has some of the best hands in the NFL and can make some pretty spectacular catches.
Having a receiver that can turn a bad throw into a huge play would be huge for Love’s confidence. The top two receivers in Green Bay are Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs. As a receiving duo, they’re fine, but certainly not anything to write home about. Doubs has been fantastic to start the season as he’s knocking on the door of the WR1 spot. However, missing Watson for the first three weeks weakened their receiving core even further.
Most teams have a receiver who is solidified as the best receiver on the team and has proven that at least once in their career. The Packers, on the other hand, are relying on two second-year receivers to help develop Love and lead them to the playoffs.
More than just being a key piece on the field, Adams would provide some much-needed veteran guidance in the locker room. Both Watson and Doubs have displayed some incredible talent, so adding one of the best receivers in football to be their mentor would do incredible things for them
Getting back to the injury, none of this would matter – aside from the mentorship – if Adams isn’t healthy. Despite returning to the game, it’s clear he’s in a lot of pain. If this injury doesn’t have much time to heal, it could worsen. Adams hasn’t requested a trade yet but after falling to 1-3, it feels like a trade request is looming. For the sake of Green Bay, every fan should hope his injury was very minor.
