The season will literally be on the line for the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday when they take on the Green Bay Packers in the NFL Wild Card Round. This is exactly why Cowboys All-Pro cornerback Stephon Gilmore has every intention of suiting up despite the fact that he suffered a dislocated shoulder in Dallas’ Week 18 blowout win over the Washington Commanders.
Gilmore has now spoken out about his status for Sunday’s do-or-die showdown, and it is clear that the 33-year-old isn’t going to let his injury hold him back.
Stephon Gilmore Reveals Injury Status Vs. Green Bay Packers
Gilmore, who exited Sunday’s win over the Commanders and was unable to return, was quick to play down his shoulder injury ahead of their Wildcard showdown against the Packers. According to the five-time Pro Bowler, there’s no way he’s missing Sunday’s game:
“A lot of guys through a lot of things throughout the season they have to play through,” Gilmore said on Wednesday, via Joseph Hoyt of Lonestar Live. “It’s just another thing for myself. I’ve played through a lot this year. It comes with the territory and you have to make it work.”
Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy also confirmed that the team is doing everything it can to help Gilmore get ready for Sunday:
“He’s making really good progress,” McCarthy said, via Charean Williams of PFT. “The goal is to give Gilly what he needs here Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and then line him up Saturday and cut him loose, but we need to see how the week goes.”
Gilmore went on to say that he doesn’t believe he will have any limitations against Green Bay. The one-time Super Bowl champ said that “it’s just about going out there and being confident and letting the chips fall where they are.”
This is far from Gilmore’s first dance and he knows what he needs to do on Sunday.
“I’m looking forward to the opportunity,” Gilmore said. “So whatever it takes.”
