Over the last few days, several former Green Bay Packers players and coaches have been making headlines for their ties to current NFL openings. Of course, the biggest name left on the head coaching market is former Packers head coach Mike McCarthy, who is in the running for the New Orleans Saints job. However, other former players and coaches have landed jobs around the NFL already.
Robert Saleh, who spent a good portion of the 2024 season on Matt LaFleur‘s staff, is the new defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers. Al Harris, a former Packers Pro Bowl cornerback, is the new passing game coordinator/defensive backs coach for the Chicago Bears.
What is more, former Aaron Rodgers backup Scott Tolzien just became available after being let go by the Dallas Cowboys. May Packers fans want him to be the team’s new quarterbacks coach.
Former Green Bay Packers Special Teams Ace Chris Banjo Is a Hot Name
For Packers defensive back Chris Banjo was never a great defensive player, but he was phenomenal on special teams. In fact, he spent 10 years in the NFL primarily as a special teams wizard.
He was so good, in fact, that as soon as he retired as a player, Banjo was hired by the Denver Broncos as an assistant special teams coach.
And now two teams, the 49ers and Cowboys, are interested in him possibly becoming their next special teams coordinator:

As one can see, Banjo was interviewed by the 49ers almost two weeks ago. They have not filled the position yet.

The Cowboys, fresh off of promoting their offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer, to head coach are completely revamping their coaching staff, and are interested in Banjo as well.
It certainly seems like, if he does not get a special teams coordinator job this year, he will very, very soon.
Of note, Rich Bisaccia’s contract with the Packers expires following the 2025 season. If that unit does not show any improvement, Banjo could be a name LaFleur looks to in 2026.
That is, if he does not get hired during this cycle.
