There are more than a few things to talk about coming out of the Green Bay Packers’ practice session on Monday. However, one that stood out was rookie cornerback Carrington Valentine picking off a Jordan Love pass to return for a touchdown. It was an eye-popping play, no doubt — one that adds to Valentine’s growing list of highlights in the offseason.
Green Bay Packers Rookie Carrington Valentine Reacts to Jordan Love Pick-6

Toward the end of practice, Valentine read Love’s out route to Romeo Doubs perfectly. The rookie intercepted the pass for a 69-yard touchdown that turned out to be another impressive play from Green Bay’s seventh-round pick from the 2023 NFL Draft.
Valentine sounded off on the pick-6 after practice, and it is clear that these are the plays the young man has been working so hard on ahead of his debut season:
“Your eyes never lie to you,” Valentine said of the play, via Pete Dougherty of PackersNews.com “so as long as you know your eyes are in the right place and you’re not looking at the quarterback, once you get in that consistent habit, good things happen.”
Right now, Valentine is in line to play a major part for the Packers this coming season. His rise has been quite a revelation for most but for the former Kentucky standout, this is all part of the process:
“I’ve been used to grinding,” he said. “At Kentucky, I started at the bottom of the bottom, lowest (recruit) in my class, just came up scratching and clawing and eventually ended up starting my freshman year towards the end, then started the rest of my career there.”
Injuries have played a key role in Valentine’s trajectory of late with Eric Stokes on the physically-unable-to-perform list. Jaire Alexander has also been sidelined, thereby opening a slot for the rookie to get some playing time as a starter opposite Rasul Douglas. If Carrington Valentine keeps playing like this, he might just force Coach Matt LaFleur to re-evaluate the pecking order for the upcoming campaign.
