Green Bay Packers rookie tight end Ben Sims scored his first career touchdown on Sunday night against the Kansas City Chiefs. It was on a 1-yard reception on the opening drive of the football game on a pass from quarterback Jordan Love.
That touchdown reception by Sims was his only reception in the game during the 27-19 victory. He is an undrafted free agent from Baylor and Ben Sims started out with the Minnesota Vikings during all of preseason before coming over to the Green Bay Packers via waiver wire. This was a great get by general manager Brian Gutekunst and Sims is only 23 years old.
Sims spoke to Wes Hodkiewicz after the game and told him about scoring his first career NFL touchdown:
“Growing up, you always wish to play in the NFL and you always wish to play in the mecca of pro football. Today, I got to do that and I got to score my first touchdown and got to Lambeau Leap. So my heart is full.”
Sims is 6’5″ and weighs 250 lbs and is currently the Packers’ second tight end on the roster. He has been on the 53-man roster all season long. With injuries to Luke Musgrave, he will get more snaps. Tucker Kraft is currently the number one tight end on the roster.
All of the tight ends on the Packers roster are rookies. This is the youngest team in the NFL this season.
Green Bay Packers Rookie Tight End Ben Sims Is the Latest Young Player to Step Up
There are so many young players on the offensive side of the football this season who have been stepping up for the Packers. Sims is the latest player to do so. Yes, he only had one reception on Sunday night against the Kansas City Chiefs and it was for a touchdown, but he has been blocking well in the ground game which has opened up holes in the running game.
This is something that Green Bay was missing earlier in the season. All of the young players are gelling together now on this roster. Sims’ name will continue to be heard for the rest of the season for the Packers.
