Green Bay Packers fans had a bold idea for the Chicago Bears after their defense dominated the game in Week 18. Joe Barry’s defense allowed Justin Fields to lead the Bears’ offense to only nine points in a game the quarterback needed to showcase his skills against a playoff-caliber team.
The Packers needed to beat the Bears to earn a playoff spot. Bears head coach Matt Eberflus and Fields needed to use the Packers contest as a way for the front office to evaluate how to proceed in the offseason. The Packers took care of business by winning 17-9 to earn the seventh seed in the NFC.
The Bears will have to decide this offseason whether to trade Fields and use their number one draft pick in April to draft his replacement or trade the pick to build around FIelds. The Bears came into the Packers game winners of four of their previous five games. But the loss to the Packers could be the final straw for the Fields experiment.
Packers fans gave their opinion on what the Bears should do with Fields.
Green Bay Packers fans want Fields to return to Chicago
According to David Kaplan with ESPN, Packers fans exiting Lambeau Field begged the Bears to keep FIelds for the 2024 season.
As we are walking out of Lambeau Field, a large contingent of Packers fans all in their green and gold are chanting. “Keep Justin Fields keep Justin Fields.”
What happens Bears fans?
Monday on @ESPN1000 we will discuss all of it starting at 7 a.m, on the Kap and JHood Show.— David Kaplan (@thekapman) January 8, 2024
And why wouldn’t Packers fans want that?
Fields is now 0-6 against the Packers. He didn’t get much help from his receivers or offensive line Sunday, but Fields missed critical throws in the second half that seriously hurt the Bears’ chances of playing spoiler against the biggest rival.
Fields finished 11/16 passing for 148 yards against the Packers. His prized mobility was not on display Sunday, as he was sacked five times for 31 yards. Fields only added 27 yards rushing.
Those stats should send any fence-riding quarterback out of Chicago since the Bears have the option to draft any quarterback in the draft they like, including Caleb Williams.
Will the Bears be smart enough to make that decision?
