Green Bay Packers: All it takes is 24 points

Scan the Green Bay Packers’ game scores from 2022 and it’s pretty clear: Score 24 points and a victory is almost certain.

Last season the Packers scored 24 or more points in eight games. The team had a 7-1 record in those games. The only loss was a 40-33 defeat at the hands of NFC Super Bowl representative Philadelphia Eagles.

The difference between scoring 24 points and not

In the other nine games in 2022, the Packers scored 22 or fewer points and had a 1-8 record. That’s a big difference between a 7-1 record (.875) and a 1-8 record (.111).

In 2022, NFL teams were 171-53, a .763 winning percentage in games where a team scored 24 or more points. A .763 winning percentage over a 17-game schedule would net 13 wins; in 2022 that would’ve been enough for a playoff spot and division title or tie for the title in six of the eight divisions.

Six teams went undefeated last year in games where they scored 24 or more points: Minnesota (11-0), San Francisco (10-0), Cincinnati (9-0), Jets (5-0), Rams (3-0), and Tennessee (3-0).

Green Bay Packers were 43-7-1 last five years when scoring 24+ points

If we look at the scores from the last five seasons, the 24-point benchmark has been a pretty good indicator for wins and losses for the Packers. From 2018-22, Green Bay was 43-7-1 in games where they scored 24 or more points, a winning percentage of .853. With a record of 10-21 (.323 winning percentage) in games where they scored less than 24 points from 2018-22, the Packers had a difference of .530 percentage points between the two… a significant gap.

The Packers from 2018-22 were tied with the third best record in games when they scored 24 or more points. Here are the 11 teams who had a .800 winning percentage in the last five years when they scored 24 or more points in a game.

    .915-Buffalo
    .900-Tennessee
    .853-Green Bay, Cincinnati
    .844-Rams
    .818-Kansas City
    .813-Dallas
    .811-New Orleans
    .804-Baltimore, New England
    .800-San Francisco

Packers have most games in NFL with 24+ points since 1992

If we turn the clocks back to 1992 and look at games from the Brett Favre-Aaron Rodgers Packers era, Green Bay led the NFL with the most games with 24 or more points with 292. Second on the list were the New England Patriots with 269. The Packers had the fourth best winning percentage for teams that scored 24+ points in games from 1992-2022. They were 242-48-2 (.832) when they got 24 or more points in a game since 1992. The Top 5 winning percentages in games with 24 or more points from 1992-2022:

    1. New England, .892
    2. Pittsburgh, .847
    3. Philadelphia, .844
    4. Green Bay, .832
    5. Denver, .823
