The Green Bay Packers had running AJ Dillon in their running back room for the past seasons, but it appears as if Dillon is moving on from Green Bay. According to sources that told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Dillon is looking at the possibility of signing with either the New York Giants, the Dallas Cowboys, or the Indianapolis Colts.
Dillon missed the final three games of the season for the Packers due to an injury. He had to start a few games last season because Aaron Jones missed some games due to a hamstring injury.
AJ Dillon rushed for 613 yards on 178 carries and two touchdowns, along with averaging 3.4 yards per carry. He also caught 22 passes for 223 yards receiving and zero touchdowns, along with averaging 10.1 yards per reception.
Dillon was a second-round selection (62nd overall) in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Boston College. He is only 25 years old and will be serviceable to a football team that needs a second running back. AJ Dillon could also be looking at a possibility where he can be the lead back for a football team, although he hasn’t shown much hope of being a lead back in a running back room.
The Fit That Makes the Most Sense for Former Green Bay Packers Running Back AJ Dillon is the New York Giants
Dillon has been used in a running back by committee for his entire career. The Giants appear to be heading in that direction after losing Saquon Barkley in NFL free agency to the Philadelphia Eagles. They signed Devin Singletary and are looking to sign another running back on the market.
AJ Dillon would serve as the second running back in New York’s offense and it would be the perfect fit for him. With the Dallas Cowboys losing Tony Pollard to the Tennessee Titans in NFL free agency, Dillon would become the number one running back in that offense instantly and get the bulk of the carries.
That is something he would probably want, but that may not be something that the Dallas Cowboys fans would want. As for the Indianapolis Colts, Dillon would not be another bad landing spot for him. Jonathan Taylor is the lead back in the offense. Indianapolis needs a capable backup behind Taylor.
AJ Dillon would also seem to fit well in that offense for the Colts. Indianapolis will run the football in the offensive scheme that they have. In the New York Giants offense, he can all be the running back down at the goalline to get into the end zone for them.
