The Green Bay Packers are 2-3 heading into their Bye Week after a frustrating loss against the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday Night Football. The loss saw the Green Bay offense put up a measly 13 points with quarterback Jordan Love throwing three interceptions.
Over the last four weeks, the offense has looked progressively worse and worse. During the Bye Week, the team will undoubtedly look at a variety of ways in which they can spark the offense into being what they had hoped it would be.
This notion has led many writers to propose various trades that could bring in some extra help. One of these includes running back Aaron Jones, who has missed three of the previous four games with a hamstring injury.
Proposed Green Bay Packers Trade Would Send Aaron Jones to the Pittsburgh Steelers for Najee Harris and James Daniels

In his recent article posted by Lombardi Avenue, writer Austin Krueger suggests that the Packers may look to move on from Jones, who likely will not be back with the team next year due to the organization not wanting to pay him.
Krueger suggests the Pittsburgh Steelers as a possible trade partner, with them sending third-year running back Najee Harris and offensive James Daniels to Green Bay in exchange for Jones and a draft pick.
Krueger’s reasoning behind the trade is as follows:
“In the case of the Steelers, there were large expectations going into the season, and similar to Green Bay, the offense has mostly underperformed. With running back Najee Harris approaching two years of struggling to get back on track to his rookie level of play, the team has mixed in more Jaylen Warren in 2023.
“Harris could also be on the trade block heading into the deadline. The former Alabama star and rookie sensation could benefit from a change of scenery and a new system.
“As fans are calling for offensive coordinator Matt Canada’s job, the team may look to add a dynamic weapon like Jones. Because, after all, they currently sit atop the AFC North at 3-2, and adding Jones could keep them firmly in contention.”
In theory, this reasoning makes sense, especially for the Packers. While losing Jones would be a massive blow in 2023, he likely will not be on the team beyond this season. Adding Harris, who has run for over 1,000 in each of the previous two seasons, could help provide some long-term stability at the position.
The Downside of the Green Bay Packers Trading Aaron Jones for Najee Harris

As Krueger notes, Harris is having a down-year this year. In five games, he has 63 carries for 247 yards and no touchdowns. This puts him well below pace to match the production he put out in his first two NFL seasons:
- 2021: 307 carries, 1,200 yards, seven touchdowns
- 2022: 272 carries, 1,034 yards, seven touchdowns
And while he is still young and it could be a down year, the fact of the matter is that the shelf-life of running backs in the NFL is not that long. Packers fans may remember how Eddie Lacy ran for over 1,000 yards in each of his first two seasons before becoming less and less productive.
There is also the inclusion of James Daniels that makes parting with Jones and a draft pick worrisome. According to PFF, Daniels has a run blocking grade of 62.2 and a pass blocking grade of 38.7.
In short, Daniels will not improve the Packers’ offensive line. The idea of addressing the issue of the line is good; but Daniels is not the answer to the Packers’ woes.
The idea makes sense. As painful as it would be to trade Jones, the notion of getting a young running back and offensive lineman in return for a player who isn’t going to be on the team next year would be a no-brainer. The problem is that it takes two teams to make a trade happen.
In addition to all the downsides previously pointed out regarding Harris and Daniels, one has to wonder if the Steelers would really want to give up two players for a [near] 30-year old running back that can’t get his hamstring right.
