Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones showed up to practice for the second consecutive day after dealing with a knee injury that has sidelined him for the last couple of games. This is great news for the Packers and Jones because he is on track to play on Monday night against the New York Giants (4-8).
Aaron Jones last played against the Los Angeles Chargers on 11/19. He rushed for only 14 yards on four carries and averaged 3,5 yards per carry before leaving the game with a knee injury. Jones has been dealing with an injury-riddled season. He also had a hamstring injury earlier in the season.
On the season, he has only rushed for 245 yards on 66 carries and two touchdowns. Aaron Jones is averaging 3.7 yards per carry. He has also caught 19 passes for 169 yards receiving and one touchdown. Jones is averaging 8.9 yards per reception.
It is a good thing that the Packers offense is going to possibly get him back because he will be the primary running back in the lineup and also it will keep AJ Dillon fresh. Dillon stepped up in his absence. He rushed for 43 yards on 14 carries against the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving and also rushed for 73 yards on 18 carries against the Kansas City Chiefs last weekend.
Green Bay Packers Running Back Aaron Jones Needs to Stay Healthy For the Rest of the Season and the New York Giants Run Defense is Also Not Good
One of the most important things for the Packers offense for the remainder of this season during this stretch run is for running back Jones to stay healthy. A.J. Dillon has been better as of late. Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon will need to be the 1-2 punch that the Green Bay Packers have been looking for all season long.
That could help matters as the New York Giants are tied for the fourth-worst rushing defense in the NFL with the New York Jets at giving up 136.1 yards rushing per game. This is a golden opportunity for Jones not only to be back this week but for him to perform well right away like he never left.
The ground game is still important for this offense. This is what head coach Matt LaFleur’s game plans and it will also help out quarterback Jordan Love. Suppose Jones can not stay healthy at any point for the rest of the season. In that case, general manager Brian Gutekunst will have some decisions to make in the offseason about the one year remaining on his contract.
