Long time Kansas City Royal and former Milwaukee Brewer Mike Moustakas signed a four year, $64MM deal with the Cincinnati Reds prior to the start of the 2020 season.  The former three time All-Star was designated for assignment back in December despite still being owed $22MM.  Now, the Colorado Rockies have signed him with the intention of having him play second base.

Mike Moustakas, former All-Star with the Royals and Brewers, has signed with the Colorado Rockies.

Rockies current plan is for Moustakas to play 2B with Rudgers out, which would allow them to leave McMahon at 3B.

Having been DFA’d, the Colorado Rockies are paying Mike Moustakas the league minimum salary.  The Reds will be on the hook for the remainder of his salary.  This is a pretty low risk move for the Rockies who are now without infielder Brendan Rodgers after he dislocated his shoulder.

After the signing was announced, Moustakas had this to say, “I finally feel good”.  He battled a lot of injuries while in Cincinnati and now will be playing in a very hitter friendly environment.  That ballpark may be just what he needs to get back on track.
