The Green Bay Packers have lost another wide receiver. Only this time, it doesn’t hurt as badly. Equanimeous St. Brown has signed a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears. The deal is for $965,000.

Safe to say money was not the reason he is not returning to Green Bay.

This deal was expected as St. Brown met with the Bears last week. He is the second former Packers player to join a NFC North rival this week. Za’Darius Smith signed with the Vikings on Tuesday.
Equanimeous St. Brown with the Packers
Equanimeous St. Brown was a sixth round draft pick by the Green Bay Packers in 2018. The Packers saw a great deal of potential in him, but unfortunately he was never able to realize it. In his rookie season, St. Brown had 21 receptions for 328 yards. Not fantastic numbers, but promising. However, he lost all of 2019 to injury. In 2020, he struggled to gain the trust of Aaron Rodgers, especially after a 15.6% drop rate. Last season, St. Brown was little-used, but did not make good plays when he found the field.
As an indicator that the Packers were ready to move on, Green Bay did not decided to exercise St. Brown’s fifth year option. He became a free agent, and has now stayed in the NFC North. It is difficult to see a role for him on the Bears outside of special teams.
