Randall Cobb was the second former Green Bay Packers wide receiver to join the New York Jets this offseason. The Detroit Lions are reportedly watching another wide receiver this week. In recent years, the Packers have seen plenty of turnover at passing-catching positions, and there will probably be a few more incoming pass-catchers yet for the Packers in free agency. One pass catcher from the 2019-2020 Packers offense is up for grabs in the NFC North.

Shepherd has been playing the XFL for the St. Louis BattleHawks this season. He was signed by the Packers as a UDFA in 2019 after fighting his way through their minicamp. He played for two seasons in Green Bay and appeared in 14 games for the Packers. Shepherd caught six passes for 47 yards during his time for the Packers. According to Pro Football Focus, Shepherd earned a 44.5 overall grade for his play on offense in 2019 and 52.6 in 2020. He has no NFL stats since the Packers released him.
The 27-year-old North Dakota State product has spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs, Arizona Cardinals, Minnesota Vikings, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Denver Broncos. Shepherd had a productive campaign in the XFL this season as he earned XFL Special Teams Player of the Year. He caught 48 passes for 519 yards and recorded six touchdowns for the BattleHawks offense.
