The Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys have a number of weapons on the offensive side of the ball. While most analysts were skeptical about the Packers’ offense heading into the 2023 season, many of those critics were silenced by the end of the season. In their final ten games the Packers went 7-3, including a massive playoff win over the Dallas Cowboys.
The playoff loss still stings in Dallas, however, they may get their “revenge” by targeting one of the Packers’ best players.
The Green Bay Packers Must Be Careful With One Of Their Best Players
BVM Sports highlighted how Aaron Jones could wind up being a member of the Dallas Cowboys:
The Cowboys, still reeling from a playoff setback against the Packers, may have an opportunity to strengthen their roster by acquiring Aaron Jones amid the Packers’ looming decision to potentially release him.
BVM broke down the scenario even further:
By the Numbers
- Jones agreed to a pay cut last offseason to support the Packers’ cap space needs.
- Jones recorded impressive stats in 2023, ranking eighth in yards after contact per rush attempt and earning an 81.5 rushing grade.
State of Play
- The Cowboys could potentially secure Aaron Jones, a top running back, in a cheap deal if the Packers follow through with releasing him.
- Jones has excelled against the Cowboys in his pro career, showcasing his talent and value to the team.
What’s Next
If the Packers release Aaron Jones, the Cowboys have a golden opportunity to reinforce their running game and potentially gain an edge in a future playoff rematch with Green Bay.
Bottom Line
The looming possibility of acquiring Aaron Jones presents the Cowboys with a strategic advantage to avenge past defeats and enhance their offensive capabilities for upcoming challenges.
Will The Packers Move On From Aaron Jones Or Let Him Walk To The Dallas Cowboys?
During the NFL scouting combine, Packers officials met with Aaron Jones’ agent to discuss a salary cap cut that would reduce the burden of the final year of his contract on the team.
According to a source, the Packers and Drew Rosenhaus are negotiating a number to satisfy the team’s desire to lower the salary cap hit. Further discussions will be needed to determine how they would reduce the salary cap.
Bottom line, they want him back.
If the two cannot reach an agreement within two weeks, however, the Packers could let him go and hope whatever they offer isn’t matched elsewhere. As a result, the team will have to negotiate with Rosenhaus to find a way to reduce the cap without losing him to another team.
Jones has proved over and over how important he is to the Packers’ offense. Keeping him in Green Bay will remain a top priority for the Packers’ front office.
