Corbin Burnes, former Milwaukee Brewers ace and Cy Young award winner, has never been shy about airing his feelings and revealing his thoughts. Over the years he vocally has discussed baseball’s arbitration system/path to free agency, how his relationship with the Brewers ownership was tarnished during an arbitration hearing, and how he feels he has earned the right to see his true value on the free agent market and choose where to play in 2025 and beyond.
All of this ultimately built up to him inevitably being traded by Milwaukee. That day arrived on the first day of February as he was traded to the Baltimore Orioles just one day after the O’s had announced a group of new owners.
After speaking on air for the first time since the trade, Burnes took a subtle jab at the Brewers ownership and expressed high hopes and expectations for the Orioles owners.
Corbin Burnes took a subtle jab at the Milwaukee Brewers ownership following his trade and expressed confidence in the Baltimore Orioles new ownership group.
“To have this new ownership, that I don’t know if they had anything to do with this trade, maybe they gave the go ahead to pull the trigger and have plans on adding more now or adding more at the deadline. But just knowing that you have an ownership group that’s willing to go out and spend money I think is what you want from an organization.
You want to know ‘hey we are contending’ we are going to add or during the off-season we need some pieces and they are going to go out and get those pieces. I think any player or any fan base wants to know that their owners are going to go out there and add. If they need something they are going to go get it. It’s definitely exciting knowing that this ownership group has the possibility of doing that and it looks like they are going to do that.”

Even though the Brewers were not specifically mentioned in Burnes’ comments, his previous frustrations with the way Milwaukee operates is well documented. Time will tell if his tenure in Baltimore pans out into anything long term or not, but so far he seems impressed with the Orioles new management.
