The Cincinnati Reds signed first baseman Trey Mancini to a minor league deal seven days ago. His signing came the day before Joey Votto was placed on the IL. Since then the Reds have announced that Votto should return in early September, which means they no longer need their insurance policy in Trey Mancini.

Trey Mancini has been released by the Cincinnati Reds.
Gordon Wittenmyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer reported the news of Trey Mancini being released. He appeared in just five games for Triple-A Louisville. Despite the short tenure he managed to hit two home runs and slash .316/.316/737.
Timing wise Trey Mancini is now a free agent and can sign with any team. He would need to sign with a new team prior to September first in order to be post-season eligible. A season ago he was on the World Series winning Houston Astros in which he had several big moments. It will be interesting to see if another team takes a chance on him or not.
