Cincinnati Reds star rookie Elly De La Cruz is an electric player and a menace on the base paths. His latest example of elite speed, recognition, and base running came on Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays when he went from home-to-home on a ball that took an awkward bounce off the wall and the throw back in was off the mark.

Elly De La Cruz surpasses a Cincinnati Reds Statcast record previously held by Billy Hamilton.

During this play he went from home-to-home in 15.30 seconds. Since 2015, when Statcast started being used, this is the fastest time that any Reds player has done this. The previous record was held by Billy Hamilton at 15.60 seconds.
Matt McLain, who was on first base when Elly De La Cruz hit this baseball, also scored on the play but was fearful that he was going to be lapped by his teammate. Regarding the play McClain said, “I slid home thinking that I was the play at the plate. I didn’t know Elly was behind me. And I kept telling him like, ‘Dude, if you catch me, we’re fighting.’”
