The Green Bay Packers have been waiting for their star left tackle to return for 18 months. In December 2020, David Bakhtiari tore his ACL, July 2022, that injury is still lingering. The injury is apparently lingering to the point where procedures are still being done in the off-season. Today Brian Gutekunst dropped some major news regarding David Bakhtiari‘s 2022 off-season.
Brian Gutekunst’s Comments:
Per Rob Demovsky: Packers GM Brian Gutekunst said LT David Bakhtiari had another procedure on his knee this offseason, which helps explain why he’s been out all offseason and is on PUP to start camp.
He called the initial injury “much more than an ACL” but maintained Bakhtiari will play again.
A follow-up question was asked, regarding if David Bakhtiari would ever play again.
Gute flatly said “no” when asked if he had concerns that Bakh will never make it back to the lineup.
What does this mean going forward?
While it seems David Bakhtiari has had yet another such back, the Packers front office is not ruling him out for week one. Watching for David Bakhtiari‘s mobility during training camp will be key. It will also be significant when he lines up against defensive lineman, as that will put even more pressure on that injured knee. While David Bakhtiari played in that meaningless week 18 matchup against the Lions in 2021, he admitted that he just never felt right during that game. This caused him to miss the biggest game of the season just two weeks later against the San Francisco 40 Niners in the playoffs.
