As the Brewers’ off-season continues, we continue to give out player report cards. Next up is Rowdy Tellez. Tellez was the everyday first baseman for the Brewers in 2022. Here is a recap of the 2022 season for Rowdy Tellez and his stats, plus what to expect in 2023.
Rowdy Tellez Stats (2022)
Rowdy Tellez stats were as follows in 2022:
- .219 batting average
- 35 home runs (led the team)
- 89 RBI’s
- 62 walks
- 121 strikeouts
- .306 OBP
The home runs and RBIs were really good for Tellez. In addition, he got the chance to play every day for the first time in his career and did not disappoint. Tellez also played in 153 of 162 games. He was consequently a player the Brewers could rely on and stayed healthy all season.
2023 Rowdy Tellez Stats & Projection
The first base job should certainly be and will likely be Tellez’s job to lose. He had a good season and was therefore reliable to play every day. I would like to see the Rowdy Tellez batting average stats and the on-base percentage stats increase in 2023. He needs to put the ball in play more with the exception of the home run ball, and be more patient at the plate. If he can raise those areas and be consistent with the rest, we are looking at a potential All-Star in 2023 as a result.
Final Grade
I am going to give Tellez a B+ for the 2022 season. Anytime a player is reliable to be in the lineup daily is certainly an accomplishment. We see a ton of nagging injuries throughout the season for almost every player. That is not a surprise since it’s a 162-game season. It will be interesting to see if Tellez can have an encore in 2023 with the home runs and RBIs. It was exactly what the Brewers were looking for. I hope Rowdy Tellez can produce batting stats that include a .240 batting average in 2023. If he can, I have no doubt he will be in the All-Star consideration as a result. I am hoping for another good 2023 year from Rowdy Tellez.

Rowdy’s BA and OBP should go up significantly without the infield shift. He grounded out
to “short right field” fairly often.
