Bobby Portis Jr. had a big game for the Milwaukee Bucks off the bench in a 135-102 blowout win over the Boston Celtics. Portis Jr. led the way for the Bucks in scoring with 28 points. He also grabbed 12 rebounds and recorded one steal in the game as well.
Bobby Portis Jr. led Milwaukee to a 75-38 lead at halftime against Boston and it was the fourth biggest halftime lead in franchise history. After the game was over, he told Matthew Dugandzic of Sports Illustrated about the big performance on Thursday night against the Boston Celtics by saying:
“Just feeling it. Getting in the gym over the last couple days. It was great to have a couple days off, get some rest for one but just get in the gym at night time and get back to the basics. That’s all we needed. Me and my two OGs do we what we always do — get in the gym trust our work and go out there and shoot the same shots we always shoot. And today, they just happened to go in. Happy to see the ball go through the net a little bit.”
It was the first time in seven games that Portis Jr. scored in double figures off the bench. This season, Bobby Portis Jr. is averaging 12.4 PPG, 6.7 RPG, and 1.0 APG.
He has a chance to be the sixth man of the year depending on how the rest of the season goes. Portis Jr. has started in some games this season.
Bobby Portis Jr. Downplays Win Over the Boston Celtics
While many people will think that the Bucks (26-12) made a statement on Thursday night against the Celtics (29-9), Portis Jr. tried to downplay the win. He told Dugandzic also after the game was over by saying:
“It’s just another game, to be honest. You can’t get too high, get too low in this league. That’s what the 82-game stretch for us is — to find rhythm, find camaraderie, chemistry. You go out there, play and have fun. Whatever it is, but it’s just another game for us. Happy we got the dub, but I think our minds are focused on Golden State [Warriors] on Saturday. Big week, two fast-paced teams who like to get up and down. So we have to lock in.”
Milwaukee knows that this win against Boston was a great win and it may have planted a seed of doubt in their minds. However, the Milwaukee Bucks will need to save these kinds of performances again in the spring time when they can very well face the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals. Bobby Portis Jr. will play a huge role in the team’s success moving forward.
