Show me the money! The biggest reason why Aaron Rodgers will return to Packers in 2023 per analyst
The biggest storyline (again) this offseason for the Green Bay Packers will be quarterback Aaron Rodgers and his pending decision. As Rodgers walked off the field with Randall Cobb on Sunday night, the attention immediately turned to Rodgers.
Just like it did last year after the loss to San Francisco. And we should expect a similar timeline as the 2022 offseason when Rodgers was rewarded with a big contract.
That contract and how much Rodgers is owed is the biggest key in his decision. One NFL analyst believes that is the case and the biggest reason why he will stay in Green Bay for at least another year.
Joel Curry of CBS Sports broke down the three options for Rodgers: Retire, a trade or return to Green Bay, using the cap ramifications for each reason. Here is how Curry ended his article on the section of returning to Green Bay:
I suspect the fully guaranteed $59.465 million will ultimately provide enough incentive for Rodgers to remain with the Packers for the 2023 season. Most athletes aren’t going to walk away from such a substantial sum of money regardless of wealth. Given how the last couple of years have played out once Green Bay’s season is over, it would be a major surprise if the same dance about Rodgers’ future doesn’t repeat itself in January 2024.
That money is a HUGE deal for the Packers cap and Aaron Rodgers himself. Turning that down would be bold for Rodgers, especially if he wants to play another year.
And like Curry said, get ready for this once again in 2024…
