Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers are seemingly at a crossroads this off-season. For the third straight year, the future of Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is up in the air. In fact, the latest report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter suggests that the four-time MVP may be at the center of trade talks again this offseason.
Adam Schefter Says A Trade Is Certainly In Play This Off-Season
In a post today on Twitter, Adam Schefter shared an update regarding the future of Aaron Rodgers:
Both sides are fully aware that a trade is a very real scenario this off-season for Aaron Rodgers. The Packers are expected to move on from certain players, which Aaron Rodgers probably won’t like. The issue here will be the $110 million dollars left on his contract and which team could afford it. There is a real possibility at some point this off-season Aaron Rodgers is going to be traded.
The players Adam Schefter may be referring to are ones that Aaron Rodgers previously mentioned in a post-season interview. Rodgers mentioned “he doesn’t want to be part of a rebuild,” and would be open to playing elsewhere if the Packers want to go younger next season. However, the four-time MVP specifically mentioned five teammates with uncertain futures in Green Bay that he would want in with him on the Packers:
“This game is about relationships,” Rodgers said. “It’s about the guys you rely on, even if they don’t show up huge in the stat book. A guy like Marcedes Lewis, he’s an important cog in the wheel of the locker room and the momentum of the team. That’s a guy I want to finish my career with, you know? If I’m playing, I want that guy next to me. I want the Randall Cobbs of the world, if he wants to keep playing, in my locker room. Guys you can win with. Allen Lazard, Bobby Tonyan, Dave Bakhtiari. There’s a lot of interesting names that we’ll see their desire to re-sign these certain guys who are glue guys in the locker room that will be interesting conversations to be had.”
- Marcedes Lewis will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
- Randall Cobb will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
- Allen Lazard will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
- Robert Tonyan will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
- David Bakhtiari is currently under contract through the 2024 season.
It is highly unrealistic the Packers re-sign all four players that will be free agents this off-season. The other side of the story will be teams who could actually afford to take on Rodgers’ contract. Here are three teams that have the cap space, draft picks, and need for a veteran quarterback. If would appear that the likelihood of Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay next season is more up in the air than many Packers fans would have originally thought.

They’re retarded if they do get the dumb ass back up in a quarterback, he thinks he’s a quarterback money because I have to do a pass is he throws are intercepted they just need to keep in Rogers get the fuck in front office at the goddamn culture going in the locker room and shut up
To me the question is not so much which teams can afford to trade for Aaron Rodgers, but more so, how can the Packers afford to trade Aaron Rodgers? The salary cap hit they would take in doing so, seems to be prohibitive.
I was all in on this article and believed this could be accurate and the writer knew what they were talking about until I saw the name “Randall Cobbs”.
Well, Rodgers wants this to be his team with his buddies…. Then HE needs to renegotiate HIS contract so the team can afford HIS friends!
Otherwise ship him off and focus this draft on OL, TE, WR and a QB.
Green Bay need to pick up some some Corners backs good corners and some receivers good receiver veteran receivers and then they can win the Super Bowl every year
Green Bay need to pick up some some Corners backs good corners and some receivers good receiver veteran receivers and then they can win the Super Bowl every year and I’m a pack of Fame go Packers yeah I can do it next year if you get the good veteran corners and a good veteran receivers y’all defense is off to change just got to watch for the runs in the past
Isn’t Schefter the one who started the rumors a couple years ago too?? Salary Cap hit for Packers is gonna prohibit a lot of trade talks – and who’s to say that #12 doesn’t restructure current contract to open cap space for free agents and current Packers free agents to be resigned.
