New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers was teammates once before with Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love. This past Sunday, Rodgers texted Love before the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers matchup.
Jordan Love told Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated the text message was as follows that Aaron Rodgers sent him before the contest:
“Go beat the Bears.”
Love did that for the second time this season for the Green Bay Packers. He completed 27-of-32 passes for 316 yards passing and two touchdowns in the 17-9 win against the Chicago Bears.
The Chicago Bears have lost 10 consecutive games against the Green Bay Packers. Green Bay’s ownership over Chicago has been strong for the last five seasons. The Packers game this past Sunday wasn’t as close as the score showed. Green Bay’s offense was much better than Chicago’s.
Aaron Rodgers handed the torch of owning the Bears to Jordan Love this season. Sweeping the Bears helped the Packers make the playoffs this season.
Jordan Love Took a Big Leap In His First Season as Green Bay Packers Start Since Aaron Rodgers Was Traded to the New York Jets
The transition from Rodgers to Love was a bumpy roller coaster and it has been more smooth sailing ever since. Love completed 64.2% of his passes for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He also rushed for 247 yards on 50 carries and four touchdowns, along with averaging 4.9 yards per carry.
There were times this year that some thought that Green Bay was going to need to take a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft but that didn’t turn out to be the case for them in the long run. The Packers have their quarterback moving forward.
At least Green Bay doesn’t have to answer that question this offseason and the Chicago Bears do with Justin Fields. Chicago hasn’t been Green Bay in over five seasons and the last time the Bears did, they won the NFC North title that season with a 13-3 record. The Packers have owned the Bears for quite some time and it will continue to be that way. Rodgers was a very good mentor for Jordan Love in Green Bay before he was traded.
