Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers recently appeared on the show How Hungry Are You? hosted by Milwaukee Bucks forward Serge Ibaka. Rodgers was asked a variety of questions, most of them being light-hearted. However, Rodgers did shed some light on the Davante Adams trade that occurred earlier this year.
Aaron Rodgers Talks Openly About Davante Adams Trade
Cutting right to the chase, Ibaka asked Rodgers, “So why did the Packers trade Davante Adams?”
“A lot of it was his desire to have a new start, a fresh start. There was an unknown with my future and how long I was going to be here. And I think he loved playing with me and maybe didn’t want to necessarily get locked into a long-term deal here if I wasn’t going to be in the long-term plans of the team. Or, in my own mind,” Rodgers said. “But I think, ultimately, it was just time. Time for a new challenge for him, new opportunity.”
Rodgers continued by saying. “Him and I stayed really close and still talk all the time. People think, oh you must not like Davante, you know he’s on another team. I love him even more. I have a deeper appreciation for him now that he’s gone.”
The Packers definitely miss having an offensive weapon like Adams on their roster. Adams continues to thrive in Las Vegas, ranking seventh in receptions, fourth in receiving yards, and tied for first in receiving touchdowns.
Green Bay has struggled to find their footing during their first year without Adams. However, rookie receivers Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs appear to have a bright future based on their play this season.
Yes, Davante Adams is missed by Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. But, Green Bay will have to march forward with their new, young and promising receiving corp.
