Without a doubt, emerging quarterback Jordan Love surprised everyone when he led the Green Bay Packers to a shocking playoff run earlier this year. But for one anonymous NFL executive, though, his performance wasn’t a fluke at all.
After a promising first year as the team’s full-time starter, Love is entering his second season more comfortable in the offense and with a stronger supporting cast.
Love finished the 2023 season seventh in the NFL in passing yards (4,159), second in passing touchdowns (32), and tied for 10th in interceptions (11), with just one pick in the final eight games. He also added 247 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns. With the Packers returning their top six wide receivers and top two tight ends, Love is set to have even more weapons at his disposal.
Offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich praised the growth and cohesion of the offense. Furthermore, Love could put up even more impressive numbers next season, potentially reaching 4,500 passing yards, 35 passing touchdowns, 300 rushing yards, and 5 rushing scores. While he may not be as prolific a runner as Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen, Love’s arm talent and comfort with the returning pass-catchers should make him one of the league’s best quarterbacks.
NFL Executive Shares Honest Assessment of Green Bay Packers Jordan Love’s Breakout 2024 Campaign
Love’s run last season proved to be surprising, especially since Green Bay traded superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers over a year ago. According to an article written by Jeremy Fowler for ESPN, an unnamed NFL executive believes Love can continue playing well in his second season as the Packers’ primary QB.
Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers: Love caught fire over the last eight games of the season, which nearly thrust him into the top 10 as an emerging star in the league. His flashes of brilliance included 2,150 yards, 18 touchdowns and one interception from Weeks 11-18.
Love was dangerous inside the pocket with a 70.5 QBR. “I think that’s real,” said an AFC exec when asked if Love will sustain the play. “Arm talent and confidence and a good system around him. He’ll turn the ball over some because he’s so confident. He’ll miss here and there. But you can live with that. Short sample size, so he’s got to do it again. But he will,” Fowler wrote.
As it stands, the Packers added Jeff Hafley to be their new defensive coordinator and signed Keisean Nixon, Josh Jacobs, and AJ Dillon, among others, to new deals. These acquisitions are aimed to raise Green Bay’s ceiling, which in turn, will help elevate Love as a whole.
It remains to be seen how the Packers’ upcoming season will play out. In any case, having Love as their franchise player will help ensure their run will be as successful as it can be later this year.
