Aaron Rodgers has yet to decide if he wants to play football in 2023. If he does, there is a growing feeling among NFL executives that the Green Bay Packers will trade the future Hall of Fame quarterback if he does decide to come back next year. Mike Sando of The Athletic reported: “The bottom line is that NFL execs think the Packers are more likely to trade Rodgers than to hold onto him.”
Aaron Rodgers Will Be Traded?
Of course, the thoughts of executives from other NFL teams do not necessarily mean that they are 100% in tune with what the Packers are thinking. It is notable, however, that the latest odds list the Packers as the third most likely team that Aaron Rodgers will play for next year. The Las Vegas Raiders are now the favorites, followed by the New York Jets.
Zach Kruse of Packers Wire had this to say on the question of an Aaron Rodgers trade:
“It’s unclear if the executives have any working inside knowledge of the situation or are guessing based on the situation. It’s fair to wonder if a trade is more of what some execs are hoping for entering the offseason and less an info-based prediction of what will happen.”
This is certainly a fair question. After all, there certainly seem to be plenty of teams that would be willing to trade for the future Hall of Fame quarterback. The New York Jets owner has already gone on the record saying that he would gladly overpay to get Rodgers in a Jets uniform.
Is It Time?

Many people forget, but when the Packers made the decision to move on from Brett Favre, they had just lost the NFC Championship Game in overtime to the New York Giants. In other words, they were one of the best teams in the NFC. This season, the Packers were 8-9 and missed the playoffs. There are numerous holes at various positions that the team needs to address. Rodgers has already said he will not be part of a rebuild, but this Packers team may have no choice given its salary cap situation and the poor free agency class at their positions of need.
There is also the question of Jordan Love. He has sat behind Rodgers for three years now, the same amount of seasons that Rodgers sat behind Favre. The Packers, almost by necessity, are getting younger. Perhaps it is time to go with the younger quarterback, too.
That being said, the Packers are in a position that most NFL teams wish they were in themselves: the comfort of having two quarterbacks in which they have confidence to lead the team. Regardless of it is Aaron Rodgers or Jordan Love under center in 2023, the Packers will be in good hands.
