Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has yet to make a decision on whether or not he wants to play in 2025. The four-time NFL MVP had his worst full season as a professional last year, a season that saw him complete 63.0% of his passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a 90.5 passer rating.
The New York Jets finished the season just 5-12. Along the way, they fired head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas. Rodgers also apparently had a falling out with team owner Woody Johnson, which leaves his future with the franchise is serious doubt.
If New York decides to move on from him in 2025, as many expect them to do, one NFL executive is not so sure anyone will want the future Pro Football Hall of Famer.
NFL Executive Predicts Former Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers Will Retire
According to a report by Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, one NFL executive does not think that Rodgers will find any team that wants him (or any team he wants to play for) if the Jets do decide to release him:
“The New York Jets will soon hire a general manager who can make a splash with his first big decision: releasing Rodgers and starting fresh at the game’s most important position. That leaves a 41-year-old, recently injured quarterback without a home.
“To be sure, some from last season’s Jets staff believe Rodgers has something left and might just be eager to prove it. And he played relatively well over his final five games with 1,270 yards and nine touchdowns to three interceptions.
“‘But I’m just trying to think of a logical place for him to play and I can’t think of one,’ an AFC executive said. ‘I’m guessing he doesn’t want to go to a rebuild. And if you’re a contender, I’m not sure they want to take on Aaron Rodgers and all that comes with that. So, he might just come to the conclusion that he’s done.’
“Quarterback-needy teams picking high in the draft such as the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns and New York Giants don’t seem too enticing for Rodgers at this stage.”
At this stage of his career, Rodgers most likely does not want to be a part of a rebuilding team, as the executive noted. With most contending teams already set at the quarterback position, Rodgers’ options are extremely limited.
The Pittsburgh Steelers seemed like an option up until a few days ago when a team insider stated that the organization has no plans of bringing Rodgers in for 2025.
To be clear, it is not yet known if Rodgers even wants to play, for the Jets or anyone, next season. Retirement is still very much on the table for him even if he is not forced into it.
