The biggest story of the NFL offseason was the trade that sent Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers to the New York Jets. In return, the Packers got to swap first round picks with the Jets this year (Lukas Van Ness was selected 13th overall), they received a second round pick this year (Luke Musgrave was selected), and a conditional second round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft (becomes a first round pick if Rodgers plays 65% of New York’s offensive snaps).
In an interview on WFAN’s “Boomer and Gio” on Tuesday, Rodgers revealed one major reason why the Jets were so appealing to him, and he ultimately chose them over other teams.
Aaron Rodgers Wanted to Play for the New York Jets Because They Beat the Green Bay Packers in 2022
In his interview on Tuesday, former Jets quarterback Boomer Esiason asked Rodgers why he wanted to play for the Jets. Rodgers responded, “the Jets were always the team that was most interesting to me because of the way they whooped our a– last year.”
The Jets, of course, defeated Rodgers and the Packers at Lambeau Field by a score of 27-10.
Now, everyone knows that the loss to the Jets was not the lone reason for Rodgers wanting out of Green Bay. There were a plethora of interpersonal issues between the star quarterback and the front office that led to their eventual divorce.
However, that loss to the Jets did put New York on Rodgers’ radar. Earlier this offseason, Rodgers credited “universal signs and synchronicities” for his decision to accept the trade to the Jets.
Who knew the universe worked through four sacks and two fumbles?
