Going into training camp in the next couple of months, the Packers cornerback room looks really improved. This group has a good chance to help the Packers have a elite secondary this season. Here are the players that make up a talented cornerback room.
Jaire Alexander
The best corner on the Packers, let alone the NFL, is Jaire Alexander. In 2020, Alexander was a pro-bowl cornerback, and was locking up opposing offenses almost every week. In the NFC Championship Game, Alexander kept the Packers in the game, intercepting the ball twice. He is really coming into his own and if he keeps this up expect a huge payday for Jaire Alexander in the near future.
Kevin King
Kevin King had a really shaky 2020 season. He was re-signed this offseason, but he might not be in the future plans for the Packers. King definitely needs to improve his tackling, and obviously not allow big plays like he did last year. Hopefully defensive coordinator Joe Barry uses his strength of press-man coverage instead of having King play off like Mike Pettine did last year. This is gonna be a make or break it year for Kevin King.
Chandon Sullivan
As of right now, Chandon Sullivan is the projected starting slot corner for now. He is a solid defensive back, but has his weak moments. The Packers re-signed him as they try to bring back most of the 2020 team for another run at the Super Bowl.
Now, is he the future for the Packers at the slot position? That remains to be seen. He has to earn his spot this season as the Packers have some other options for the slot position. If Chandon Sullivan can be more consistent this season, he’ll be a key factor in this Packers’ secondary.
Kadar Hollman
Kadar Hollman is a 2019 draft pick who has not played much in his first two years. When he was on the field he was pretty good, especially when playing in man coverage. Yet, Mike Pettine kept playing him off coverage, even though he was better in man thanks to his physicality.
Hollman has a chance for playing time this season and could challenge Chandon Sullivan for the starting slot job. Overall, Kadar Hollman provides really good depth for the team in that cornerback room.
Eric Stokes
Eric Stokes fast forty time was one of the main reasons Green Bay drafted him in the first round this year. That speed is what the Packers have been missing at corner. Now thanks to the Packers having Jaire Alexander and Kevin King the Packers do not have to rush Stokes’ development. They can ease him in and not “throw him into the fire”. Eric Stokes will be a player to watch on the Packers defense this year as he can help makes the Packers cornerback group one the best in the NFL.
