We are back with a recap of offers from last week, and a brief breakdown of the player. As this looks to be a slow week in terms of offers, I’ll be looking at any updates from players with offers out there as well!
Offers
Jacob Smith- EDGE Class of 2024
This 6’5″, 225 pound edge rusher out of Connecticut has a laundry list of offers. He’s listed as a 4 star by both rivals and 247. He lines up with his hand in the dirt the majority of the time but seems to be extremely comfortable in the open field when in coverage as well. He also does the little things well, mainly getting his hand on passes when he isn’t able to get to the quarterback. His speed and power appear to be good not great but the tape on his twitter isn’t overly long. Looks like he could develop into a solid middle linebacker if he wanted to go that route. Commitment lean: The Badgers got in late but he’s currently leaning towards Kentucky or Notre Dame. In January, he narrowed his list to 10 teams and the Badgers still offered to could be some late movement.
Christian Pierce- LB Class of 2025
Christian is a 6′, 210 pound linebacker out of Illinois. He currently isn’t ranked by either major recruiting site but as we’ve seen over the last couple of weeks, that’s not uncommon for kids just finishing their sophomore seasons. His tape is impressive for a young player as you can see him reading the offense and reacting quickly. He is a sound tackler but it’s his ability to read the quarterback and deflect passes that impresses me the most. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of athlete he turns into as he develops physically. Commitment lean: He currently has 7 offers but 2 of them are from Michigan and Texas. He isn’t leaning anywhere yet but getting in early here could be key.
Josh Philostin- DB Class of 2024
Josh is a 5’10, 160 pound defensive back out of Florida. He’s rated as a 3 star by rivals and 4 star by 247 sports while also being a state champion in track and field. His film is about what you’d expect as he plays corner, wide receiver and returns kicks for his team. It’s obvious they do everything they can to get the ball in his hands. Even though he does appear to be a decent route runner and has solid hands, he looks more natural at corner. He needs to add strength as he relies a lot on his speed, but he has good ball skills and is fun to watch in the open field. Commitment lean: There’s no indication that he’s leaning a specific direction yet but he does have a handful of solid offers.
Players Updates
Jordan Lockhart- LB Class of 2024
The Badgers haven’t offered Jordan yet but he just decommitted from from Mississippi. The 4 star linebacker out of California surprisingly doesn’t have an overly long list of offers but it does include one from Alabama and USC. With Wisconsin having such a great track record with linebackers, this might be a player we see try and get into the race late. On film you see a big, strong and fast linebacker that looks like he could be an edge rusher in college. Even though he seems pretty agile, I can see him adding 20-30 pounds and causing some major issues as a pass rusher in college.
Tank Booker- Maryland Transfer
Maryland nose tackle Tank Booker announced that he’ll be entering the transfer portal. With 2 years of eligibility left and a major need in the middle of the line for the Badgers, I can see them making an offer. He had 27 total tackles last season along with 2 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. Getting someone to replace Benton that has experience and can step in from day one would be huge.
Unfortunately not a ton of action on the recruiting front over the last 2 weeks but will continue to update this weekly so everyone can stay up to date!
