Allen Lazard was the only member of the entire Green Bay Packers team that did not report for mandatory OTAs. Consequently, the Packers head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed on Tuesday that wide receiver Allen Lazard would not be getting acclimated as WR1 just yet. While mandatory, Lazard isn’t violating his contract (because he didn’t sign one) by skipping the sessions.
Allen Lazard’s agent on his absence:
Statement from Allen Lazard’s agent, Peter Schaffer, on Lazard’s mandatory minicamp absence: “Allen’s total focus is on having the best possible season he can have as a player & helping the Packers win the Lombardi Trophy. Everything he is doing is to further those objectives.”

Shaffer’s comments were extreme vague and didn’t give any clarity as to why Lazard was a no show. The deadline to sign an offer sheet with another team is gone, so Lazard will either have to sign the tender or sign a different deal with the Packers if they don’t trade him and he wants to play this year. If Lazard signs the tender, he’ll play out the year with a salary of $3.986 million and be set for unrestricted free agency in 2023.
Should Packers fans be worried?
While Allen Lazard’s absence is not ideal, there is really no other option for Lazard this season. Certainly he would like to get a long term deal done with Green Bay, or more money (or both). Allen Lazard is a no show during training camp in late July, we will start smashing the panic button
