Since 1945 Don Hutson has been widely regarded as the Packers’ best Wide Receiver in franchise history. From 1935 to 1945 Don Hutson not only dominated the wide receiver position, but he practically invented it. Without Don Hutson; Jerry Rice, Sterling Sharpe, Randy Moss, Donald Driver, Calvin Johnson, Davante Adams, don’t exist. Before we get into this debate, it is important to understand what Don Hutson did for the game of football, let alone the wide receiver position.
How Good has Davante Adams been?
Davante Adams has been in the league for eight years but a bonafide starter in the Green Bay Packers’ offense for six. In that time he ranks:
- 2nd in franchise history in receptions: 669 in 116 games (Donald Driver: 743 in 205 games)
- 4th in franchise history in receiving yards: 8,121 in 116 games (Donald Driver: 10,137 in 205 games)
- 2nd in franchise history in receiving touch downs: 73 in 116 games (Don Hutson: 99 in 116 games)
- 3rd in franchise history in total touch downs: 73 in 116 games (Don Hutson 105 in 116 games, Jim Taylor: 91 in 118 games)

If Davante Adams has 71 receiving yards tonight, here's where he'll rank among WRs over the last six seasons:
TDs: 1st
Catches: 1st
Receiving yards: 1stIt's likely we're watching a future Hall of Famer in his prime: https://t.co/oc9YcAg6jQ

Above has been just a few examples of Davante Adams’ dominance over the last few years. He is putting together some of the greatest wide receiver seasons that we have ever seen. The connection that him and Aaron Rodgers have had has been better than Jordy Nelson-Aaron Rodgers. That is a statement very few Packers fans ever thought they would see.
End Result:
Aaron Rodgers called Davante Adams the "most dominant player I've ever played with."

In terms of pure talent, there’s nobody in the NFL better than Adams. He’s undoubtedly the best wide receiver in football, even with Cooper Kupp’s post season run. He’s been so good that Rodgers considers him the most “dominant player” that he’s ever played with, and he’s including teammates like Favre, Nelson, and Charles Woodson in that conversation. What does this mean for the Hutson-Adams debate? It means that we can appreciate both what Don Hutson did for the NFL and the Green Bay Packers franchise, as well as appreciate the greatness that we are seeing with Davante Adams. Adams very well may be the best true wide receiver that we have ever seen dawn the Green Bay jersey, but it is impossible to put into words what Don Hutson means for this position, league wide.
