Regardless of this seasons outcome, one lesson the Milwaukee Brewers have learned this year is that depth matters at every position. With the regular season rapidly drawing to a close, Stearns is continuing to add depth. Most recently, Keon Broxton was signed to a minor league contract.

This signing marks the third time that Broxton had re-joined the Brewers organization. He initially was acquired via trade in 2015 and enjoyed a few years in the major leagues. A trade in 2019 sent Broxton to the Mets. The Mets ended up parting ways with him by the end of that season.
Following that, Broxton signed a minor league deal during the 2019-2020 off-season with the Brewers but never advanced to the major leagues. He elected free agency at seasons end. He now re-joins the Brewers on a new minor league deal.
For the Brewers, this marks the third depth signing over the past few weeks. Outfielder David Dahl was signed to a minor league deal a few weeks ago and earlier this week infielder Renato Nunez was signed as well. All three players are currently assigned to Triple-A Nashville.
What are the expectations for these players?
It is very unlikely that any of Dahl, Nunez, or Broxton will see any time at the major leagues this season. However, they do help improve the depth of this team given their current injury situation. Tyrone Taylor and Eduardo Escobar are currently on the IL and Daniel Vogelbach is just coming off a long IL stint.
Given the Brewers injury history this year, having replacement options in place seems like a logical idea. Should any more injuries arise the Brewers will then have veteran players to turn to. For a team expected to make a deep play-off run and contend for a world series, these are smart low risk signings by David Stearns.
