The Green Bay Packers are going in a brand new direction for their defense. A new defensive coordinator, passing game coach, and defensive line coach ensured the Packers are serious about fielding a top defense.
There are man pieces in place on defense already that can make that happen, however, there is one name who is already on the trade block that could take the defense to another level.
The Green Bay Packers Pegged To Land 4x Pro Bowl Conerback
According to Sayre Bedinger of FanSided:
Every situation is going to be different, but the recent deal sending star cornerback L’Jarius Sneed from the Kansas City Chiefs to the Tennessee Titans might cause other teams around the league — like the Packers — to be a little more aggressive in working the phone lines for some help at the cornerback position.
This is not a great cornerback draft at the top. Although there’s plenty to like about Terrion Arnold and Quinyon Mitchell, this year’s draft doesn’t seem to feature a “Sauce Gardner”. There could be some over-drafting at the cornerback position in the first round, and who knows who will even be around when the Packers are on the clock with the 25th overall pick?
There were some rumors from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler at the NFL Combine that some teams believe the Saints would be open to dealing star cornerback Marshon Lattimore. If that’s the case, the Saints might not get much more than a 3rd or 4th-round pick at this point.
If L’Jarius Sneed was going for a 2025 third-round pick and a 7th-round pick swap, then Lattimore — who has only played 17 games the last two seasons — isn’t going to net them a whole heck of a lot.
Especially with a lot of money left on his deal.
The Packers Would Get A Massive Boost From Marshon Lattimore
In spite of missing 17 games over the last two years due to injury, Lattimore remains tied for 17th in interceptions (7) and 14th in passes defensed (42) among cornerbacks since the 2020 season. When Ramsey appeared in 11 more games, he had 8 interceptions and 30 pass breakups in the same span. While there’s more to the position than this, underselling Lattimore’s performance as of late is disrespectful.
He remains one of the best cornerbacks in the league and pairing him with Jaire Alexander, Xavier McKinney, and possibly a top Safety Draft pick would completely change the secondary.
The Packers are certainly going to keep adding to their secondary this off-season. Whether that is through the draft, free agency (again), or via trade is up in the air. However, I wouldn’t rule out a combination of all three.
