The Chicago Cubs are getting some help in their playoff push. (Via Jeff Passan of ESPN.)The team is calling up top prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong to the big leagues. He will be activated before Tuesday’s game against the Colorado Rockies.
The Cubs (77-67) hold the second wild card spot but have the Arizona Diamondbacks and Miami Marlins less than a game back. The Cubs dropped three out of four to the Diamondbacks over the weekend, in which the Chicago Cubs’ offense was held at bay outside of Sunday’s 5-2 win.
The Cubs offensively rank 12th in all of baseball with a team batting average of .253. Not bad, but in the postseason, an offense needs to have that extra punch to face off against top-notch pitching.
That is where Crow-Armstrong comes in because he will be an X-Factor in the next few weeks because of his ability to get on base.
What will Pete Crow-Armstrong provide for the Chicago Cubs?
The Chicago Cubs are getting another powerful left-handed bat in their lineup. Along with Cody Bellinger, Crow-Armstrong can provide that punch the team needs as they make their playoff push.
Crow-Armstrong started the year in Double-A before being promoted to Triple-A Iowa, where he put up solid numbers. In Triple-A, Crow-Armstrong hit .271, six home runs, 22 RBIs, and 38 hits in 34 games for the Iowa Cubs.
At one point, Crow-Armstrong was one of the top prospects for the New York Mets before they traded him for Javier Baez. Now look who got the better end of that deal. Baez left New York in free agency for the Detroit Tigers, and Crow-Armstrong could potentially be a big reason why the Cubs qualify for the postseason.
