MLB News: The Los Angeles Angels have once again shocked the baseball world. One month ago they went all in at the trade deadline in hopes to show Shohei Ohtani that they are serious about winning. Unfortunately the team has fallen out of playoff contention and in an effort to dump salary they have placed five players on waivers in which they can all be claimed by teams as early as Thursday, August 31.
Los Angeles Angels shockingly place five players on waivers (MLB News).
Here are the five players that the Angels have placed on waivers.
- Lucas Giolito – Starting Pitcher
- Matt Moore – Reliever
- Reynaldo Lopez – Reliever
- Hunter Renfroe – Outfielder
- Randal Grichuk – Outfielder
With the MLB trade deadline passing this decision from the Los Angeles Angels was for salary relief purposes as that will be their compensation in any of the future transactions that occur surrounding these five players. Any team can claim these players in which that team will be responsible for paying that player what is left of the season.
How the waiver claim process works is by reverse order of record. The team that has the worst record will receive the player. There will be plenty of play-off contending teams in need of another starting pitcher, bullpen help, and an impact offensive outfielder. Players that are claimed this Thursday will be post-season eligible.
