The #6 Wisconsin Badgers will be back in action on Thursday on the road against the Nebraska Cornhuskers in BIG10 Conference play. Tipoff for this contest is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT.
Wisconsin is looking to stay in first place in conference play and it is important they don’t get caught looking ahead to Sunday’s big matchup at home against the #2 Purdue Boilermakers. The Badgers have a 16-4 overall record and an 8-1 conference record this season. Greg Gard’s team has been exceeding expectations this season.
As for the Cornhuskers, they have a 15-6 overall record and a 5-5 BIG10 Conference record. A win for Nebraska on Thursday night can go a long way for their NCAA Tournament hopes. They are currently in a 4-way tie with three other BIG10 teams with that record and they are the Maryland Terrapins, the Indiana Hoosiers, and the Michigan State Spartans.
In the last game for Wisconsin, they faced Michigan State and won that last Friday night 81-66. The Badgers only had two players score in double figures in that matchup. AJ Storr led the way with 28 points and two rebounds. Steven Crowl scored 15 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and recorded three assists.
They will need more from players like Chucky Hepburn, Max Klesmit, and Tyler Wahl if they want to avoid the road upset.
Players To Watch For On the Nebraska Cornhuskers Against the Wisconsin Badgers
The Cornhuskers are coached by Fred Hoiberg. They also haven’t played since last Saturday and it was on the road against the Maryland Terrapins. They lost that game to Maryland by a final score of 73-51. Nebraska only had one player in that contest score in double figures.
CJ Wilcher scored 14 points and also recorded one assist against the Terrapins for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Two other players to watch for the Cornhuskers in this matchup are Brice Williams and Jamarques Lawrence.
The Wisconsin Badgers are clearly better on paper than the Nebraska Cornhuskers are but this is why they play the games. Wisconsin can’t afford to get caught looking ahead to the Purdue matchup. If they take this game for granted, the Badgers will end up in the loss column and not the win column.
