The Green Bay Packers ushered in a new era over the last few seasons. Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams, David Bakhtiari, Randall Cobb, and Aaron Jones were all center pieces for this team over the last half decade plus. They’ll all be suiting up somewhere else in 2024.
However, Rodgers reportedly impacted Matt LaFleur’s personal life in a shocking way.
Former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers Drastically Impacted Matt LaFleur And His Close Friend
Considering it’s Aaron Rodgers Week, would you be interested in some juicy gossip about Rodgers wrecking Matt LaFleur and Kyle Shanahan’s friendship? Those were exactly the kind of news reports we got on Wednesday:
According to NFL reporter Michael Silver, on Kay Adams’ daily morning show, a rumor a few years ago about Rodgers drove a serious wedge between then friends, Matt LaFleur and Kyle Shanahan:
“There was a period where Kyle Shanahan and Matt LaFleur, who had once been very close, didn’t speak for months during a very contentious 2021 season,” he said. “And it was preciptated by that draft drama … there was a lot of talk that Aaron Rodgers would be suddenly traded to the Broncos that night. It didn’t happen.
But there were also reports about the 49ers and Aaron Rodgers. To Matt LaFleur, they seemed suspiciously timed. He felt a little betrayed, or a lot of betrayed, by Kyle Shanahan, who knew a lot.
It let to a blowup that famously, when the Packers beat them in that regular season game, they had one of the chilliest, non-Belichick handshakes in football history. They’ve since repaired it.”
Cameron Ellis of FanSided further highlighted this story about Rodgers:
If this isn’t peak offseason content, I don’t know what is. You know that time when you were mad at your friend for a very small thing but hugely overreacted to it because you had other stuff going on in your life and you wanted to project?
That’s this, but at the NFL Draft. It’s nice to know that even these master strategists of NFL football still have a hard time “expressing” “feelings” to their buddies. Nothing makes you feel better about your own life choices than seeing that even people who have made it to the top of the NFL still behave like high schoolers when the opportunity calls for it.
There’s hope for us all.
I think the Packers were ready to move on from Rodgers for more reasons than fans may realize.
