The state of Wisconsin women’s basketball team could continue to change after the resignation of coach Marisa Moseley.
Coach Moseley entered the program with high expectations and hope to bring the Badgers toward some sort of success within the women’s basketball realm. However, Moseley struggled to do so despite bringing in top talent such as Serah Williams and Carter McCray, even utilizing the transfer portal along the way. Moseley finished her career with the Wisconsin basketball team with a record of 47-63 and a Big Ten Conference record of 21-50 through four years as the coach of the program.
Wisconsin Women’s Basketball Coach Marisa Moseley Resigns After 13-17 Season

The resignation of Moseley comes after the Badgers finished the season with a conference record of 4-14, losing the final two games of the season to the Iowa Hawkeyes in rather lopsided contests.
The Wisconsin women’s basketball team never finished above 10th in the Big Ten Conference and the best postseason finish for the team consisted of making the WNIT Great Eight a season ago. Moseley was hired to lead the Wisconsin basketball team on the heels of a 12-3, COVID shortened season that saw Boston University win the Patriot League Championship.
Now, the coach will again search for success after her resignation from the Wisconsin basketball program had been announced by multiple media outlets, and finding another job could potentially be complicated. Moseley and the Wisconsin women’s basketball team came under fire halfway through this season after allegations of abuse were revealed by former players.
Tessa Towers, a former Wisconsin Badgers forward, transferred to Ball State after two seasons in Madison which she stated was “ruined” by coach Moseley. Towers also alleged that Moseley forced that forward into signing multiple documents that allowed for an array of access for Moseley, from being able to see transcripts of therapy sessions to having the ability to oversee the medical care that Towers received.
Multiple other players including Tessa Grady joined Towers in support against Moseley, prompting the Wisconsin Badgers to release a statement regarding the situation and an incoming investigation. Wisconsin released a statement over a month ago regarding the situation, but all that has since come of it is the resignation of Moseley, which occurred at the end of the season rather than during the possible conclusion of the investigation.
What is Next for the Wisconsin Women’s Basketball Team After the Resignation of Coach Moseley?

With Moseley receiving the grace to leave the Wisconsin basketball program at the conclusion of the regular season, potential punishments for Moseley or closure regarding the situation seems very unlikely.
The coach was offered a chance to resign rather than being fired which is likely indicative of bigger changes to occur within the program moving forward, including major roster and staff changes.
While Moseley has likely escaped any sort of disciplinary action for the potential abuse she committed, that does not mean the Wisconsin Badgers are completely out of the woods. The exit of the coach will now leave a void within the program, and nobody is a guarantee to return. Moseley has only been gone for a short period of time, but the ripples will follow shortly after once the season is official over for the Wisconsin women’s basketball team.
As far as the future goes, the Wisconsin Badgers could continue to go through struggles moving forward as the roster, staff, and identity of the program will change before the start of the next regular season. Even with a home-run hire for the vacant position the Badgers will likely endure more of the same before fully reaching the potential that the program has within the Big Ten Conference.
