The Wisconsin Badgers Women’s hockey team has had quite the season this year. Wisconsin hockey is ranked sixth in the country ahead of their NCAA Regional against Long Island. The story of the season for the Badgers has been the young players.

Kirsten Simms, Caroline Harvey, and Laila Edwards have been fantastic freshman for the Wisconsin hockey team. Caroline Harvey, in particular, was recognized as the WCHA Rookie of the Year for her fantastic freshman campaign.

Wisconsin Hockey: Caroline Harvey Named Top WCHA Freshman

Following an excellent freshman campaign, Caroline Harvey from Salem, New Hampshire was named the WCHA Rookie of the Year for her performance. Almost instantly, the freshman defensive player became a major part of the Wisconsin Badgers team. Harvey burst onto the scene with a five assist performance earlier in the year against Lindenwood. Following that performance, Harvey recorded a goal in three straight games, along with four assists in the same stretch.

The Wisconsin Badger had her game of the season against Minnesota-Duluth in October, with two goals on three shots. In 37 games this year, Harvey recorded 35 points, 11 goals, and 24 assists along with a plus or minus of +36. Harvey has been electrifying for the Badgers this season and has become a pivotal part of the sixth ranked team in the country. The Badger had a goal or assist in 20 of Wisconsin’s 37 games thus far, with more games to come. Her ability to create plays and finish great looks at the goal has been wonderful to watch this year.

The Road Ahead For Wisconsin Hockey: Tough Women’s Match-Up

Following a 4-2 loss to Minnesota in the WCHA Final FaceOff, the Wisconsin Badgers will face Long Island University in their NCAA Regional match. Long Island is 20-13-3 on the season and has won the NEWHA Conference title in the regular season and tournament this year. Long Island will be making their first-ever appearance in the NCAA tournament, being the first school to earn the NEWHA automatic bid as well.

It will certainly take the entire Wisconsin Badgers team to get the win over a hungry team. Long Island has never gotten the chance to prove themselves like this yet, and Wisconsin must prepare for that. Long Island is 0-6 against ranked opponents this year and despite the record, they are still a strong team. The Sharks are due for a win and Wisconsin will need to distribute the puck to get the shots they need. Wisconsin hockey will need performances from Harvey, and their goal scoring trio of Britta Curl, Casey O’Brien, and Lacey Eden.
