The Wisconsin football staff has picked up a major commitment from a 2025 three-star outside linebacker who previously picked up a crystal ball.
Samuel Lateju, a three-star outside linebacker in the 2025 recruiting class, has announced his intentions of committing to the Wisconsin football program. Lateju is a massive commitment for Wisconsin due to his size and play-style as the recruit can easily fit into the Wisconsin defense right away. The outside linebacker could become a potentially pivotal piece of the Badgers defense in the future.
Wisconsin Football Lands OLB Samuel Lateju Over Syracuse, Pitt, Maryland
Wisconsin football has landed their eighth hard commitment of the 2025 recruiting class after outside linebacker Samuel Lateju announced his commitment. Lateju is a three-star commitment from New Jersey and chose the Badgers over programs like Pitt, Syracuse, and Maryland who all offered the recruit as well. The outside linebacker was primarily recruited by Wisconsin football, and did not receive nearly as much interest from other programs.
For Lateju, it is another case of Wisconsin getting ‘their guy’ after doing plenty of deep recruiting research. The Badgers would rather land a handful of players they feel fit into their schemes the best rather than hunting for the best star-rated players available.
Wisconsin Badgers Football Adds a Versatile, Physical Freak to Their Growing Defense
At 6-foot-5-inches, 220-pounds, Lateju is a physical freak on the defensive side of the ball and plays exactly how you would expect. The linebacker is a monster in pursuit and rarely allows the ball-carrier to create enough space to get away from him. When rushing the quarterback, Lateju is so long and physical that most offensive tackles do not have the time to stop him.
This past season Lateju made a significant jump in the progression of his play as he began to generate more plays through the air as well. Between rushing the quarterback and intercepting his passes, Lateju has established himself as a dynamic, all-around defender.
A Look Ahead: How Can Lateju Fit Into the Wisconsin Football Defense?
For Lateju, finding a role on the Wisconsin football defense should not be an issue for the outside linebacker. Lateju has the ability to play both inside and out, as he can rush the quarterback or drop back into coverage as he picks apart the offense. The linebacker offers plenty of versatility to Wisconsin, which is something the recruiting staff truly loves in their recruits and prospects.
