The Wisconsin football staff has worked hard to keep some of their best talent in the state, which recently included a trip to Waukesha.
Owen Strebig, a 2025 four-star recruit from Catholic Memorial High School in Waukesha, is currently ranked as the top recruit in Wisconsin. The offensive tackle is considered one of the top recruits at his position as well, which has brought plenty of attention towards his way. Now, the Wisconsin football staff is making one more attempt to influence Strebig ahead of his scheduled commitment.
Wisconsin Football Giving Final Effort Before Top In-State Recruit Owen Strebig Commits
Since the new Wisconsin football staff took over nearly 16 months ago, one of the major topics of conversation has been the in-state recruiting success. While recruiting success can be found all over, landing the best players from Wisconsin just feels sweeter, and historically dominating the recruitment of the state sets a precedent.
The name that continues to appear when talking about Wisconsin football recruiting is Waukesha native Owen Strebig, the top-rated recruit in the state. The 2025 offensive tackle is widely considered one of the premier linemen in the recruiting class, which has put plenty of pressure upon the Badgers staff to make a serious push for Strebig.
The 6-foot-8-inch tackle is a physical presence on the football field, rarely allowing anyone past him and often stuffing most of his opponents’ moves. The success of Strebig on the field has garnered plenty of collegiate attention, however, which could make it too late for Wisconsin football to land the talented recruit.
A Look Ahead: Who Could Land Owen Strebig After Final Wisconsin Push?
Currently, Strebig will be announcing his collegiate commitment decision on February 8th. The recruit will be deciding between Wisconsin football, Notre Dame, Miami (FL), Florida State, and USC. Like Wisconsin, Miami has made a strong push as of late to try and sway the recruit before he announces his decision, but it could be too little too late.
Since the start of his recruitment, Notre Dame football has been the front-runner for Strebig after developing a great connection between the staff and the recruit. There are currently five crystal ball predictions on 247 Sports for Strebig, and every prediction has the tackle heading to the Fighting Irish.
The Wisconsin football staff had also been there since the beginning trying to recruit Strebig, however, it seems as though the recruit has a desire to leave the state. Strebig has visited Notre Dame a whopping seven times and recently traveled down to Miami to visit the staff.
Wisconsin Badgers Football Continuing Recruiting Success Despite In-State Struggles
While it seems as though the Wisconsin football staff has lost out of Strebig, the Badgers currently hold the ninth ranked 2025 recruiting class. The Wisconsin football staff has had hard commitments from two top-ten recruits in the state, but still have struggled to retain the top talent. Despite their struggles, the Badgers seem primed to continue to land high-level recruits and excellent team fits elsewhere.
