The Wisconsin basketball staff has extended their first 2027 scholarship offer to a talented in-state forward with a ‘surprising’ offer.
Donovan Davis, a 6-foot-7-inch small forward from Kaukauna, Wisconsin, has received his first major scholarship offer. Davis had previously been an under-the-radar recruit, but following an advanced skills camp Wisconsin chose to offer Davis. During a recent interview with Wisconsin Sports Heroics, Davis revealed his interest in the Wisconsin basketball program.
Wisconsin Basketball Staff Extends 2027 Scholarship Offer to Donovan Davis
In the first move for the 2027 recruiting class, the Wisconsin basketball staff has extended a scholarship to in-state forward Donovan Davis. Davis, who has shined on the AAU circuit recently, impressed the Wisconsin basketball staff and earned himself a scholarship. The forward did not have an offer before the Badgers extended theirs, and the Badgers had not extended any 2027 offers before Davis.
Since Davis is a 2027 recruit, the period in which coaches can directly speak to and recruit Davis has not started yet. Thus, coaches can only express their interest in Davis via his current basketball coach. Davis stated, “Some other schools like Iowa State and UWGB have been in contact with my coach.”
Both the Iowa State Cyclones and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix have contacted Davis, but have not offered a scholarship. When asked about the scholarship offer he received, Davis stated, “It was kind of a surprise to me that they offered me.”
Donovan Davis: “It Would Be Great to Play for a Program Like Wisconsin One Day”
For some, receiving the in-state scholarship can be a massive thing as you finally receive recognition from home. For Davis, receiving an offer from Wisconsin was a big thing for the hometown kid as he stated, “I’m very excited to get my first offer and it’s even better that it’s coming from a hometown team.”
When asked about the idea of staying home in Madison for his collegiate career, Davis responded, “It would be great to play for a program like Wisconsin one day.”
Davis is a versatile forward at 6-feet-7-inches, and often is able to hit his shots over taller defenders. The forward can also drive to the basket with an array of different moves.
Wisconsin Badgers Basketball Staff Hoping to Develop Close Relationship
For the Wisconsin basketball staff, the key to developing a close relationship and eventually landing Davis will come in the future. Currently, Wisconsin cannot contact Davis directly, but extending a scholarship offer was a great way to show Davis how serious they are about him.
As a 2027 recruit, Davis still has plenty of time to go to make an impression on schools and carve out a ranking for himself. Given his abilities on the court, it should not take Davis long to do so.
